Monday1/31/11

Math:  Selected problems from lesson 6 in the math book.  Calculators ok.
Science:  100 point Paper Towel Projects due Thursday. Class time will be provided.    Tues:  Write a four paragraph letter explaining results.  Wednesday:  Create one - three graphs of results using data, color, and correct spacing.  Thursday:  Design a cover for the winning towel.

All Math Quizzes and Tests Sent Home today!

Math:  Warm-up, homework check.  If students had all homework for the week finished, they got to go to the computer lab and try the games and links on the blog for 30 minutes.  Students will get another chance to play (if all work turned in! )  on February 10th.

Ratio Quiz;  grades should be in snapgrades  Friday.

All tests and quizzes from the first half of the year were passed out and paperclipped together.  The stack was too big to staple!  Take a look at your students quizzes and tests.

Next week we will put together our data on the paper towel experiments, draw a cover, write a letter to communicate our findings, and graph our results.

Math:  Homework:  page 26-27 selected problems.  See planner.  We took a quiz on ratios; grades will be entered into third quarter.  Reviewed common fraction/decimal equivalent flashcards.  Memorizing some basic equivalents will help us all in the real world.

Science:  Final drafts of experiment plans for tomorrow.  Absorbency tests tomorrow. 

Mystery Person:  Odalis!  Logan guessed it on the first guess after one clue!

Great Monday!
Math:  warm-up, watched a one minute video on ratios from KahnAcademy.org  Click here to learn about ratios as simplified fractions, took gridbook notes on ratios. Homework:  Yellow worksheet 1-12.  Read each question carefully.  You have to look for when they want the totals, or what's left or???
Science:  We planned our "Absorbency Tests" for the paper towels.  We shared our results from Friday's tests.  Brand A was the clearest loser for "Wet Strength".  See the pictures from Friday's post.
Fun:  Candlynn was the mystery person!  She was found out on the first guess!

Paper Towel Testing tomorrow

Math:  Decimal Block Final;  equivalent decimals and fractions pretest.  No homework : )

Science:  Final draft of paper towel wet strength test done.  Experiment tomorrow;  will Brand A, B, C, or D win??

Fun:  We created "mystery person" cards to use when we have extra time.  Today's mystery person was Josh!

Decimal Test tomorrow

Math:  warm-up, practice adding and subtraction worksheet.

Homework:  Practice Test for Block 4.  Complete all 10 problems on the worksheet;  tomorrow's test will have similar problems on it.

Science:  Discussed and designed paper towel experiments that will test for Wet Strength.  Tomorrow, we write up a final draft of the plan. Friday, we test to see which brand is the strongest when wet.

Thursday

Math:  Warm-up, corrected homework, completed Lesson 24 worksheet on estimating with multiplication and division of decimals.  No mat homework.  Quiz on Tuesday on this lesson.

Progress reports were passed out to be signed by Wednesday.  All late work is due by Jan 21st. 

We played "Cross out Singles".  An easy card game that can be played at home.  All you need is paper, pencil, and 10 cards from 0-9.

Math:  Corrected last night's Lesson 23 homework.  Reviewed decimal rounding and comparing. Lesson 21/22 Quizzes returned.  See snapgrades for scores.

Science:  We finished the Condensation puzzle and worksheet.   Chapter 4 Tests returned.  See snapgrades for scores.

Homework: Lesson 24T worksheet (#1-7) only.  Don't do the back side until tomorrow when we talk about compatible numbers.

Fun:  We've got  more Oregon athletes coming to help at Agnes Stewart pretty soon.  Two of them played in the National Championship game on Monday.

No homework unless you have missing work.

Wednesday

Math:  Warm-up;  Computer Lab for EZCBM testing.  This test monitors student progress on sixth grade benchmarks.  Our class average on 9/20/10 was 27.3.  Our class average 1/05/11 was 32.7.  We are showing improvement.

Math:  Warm-up Minute,  Hands on decimal lesson with decimal pieces.... just how small is a hundredth?

Homework:  Lesson 21 T front and back;  most students finished it in class.

Science:  Video Quiz for Chapter 4.  Team 2 got first, Team 1 got second, Team 3 got third.

Fun:  New assigned seats, and we watched part of the "Call Me A Duck"  video.  Find the link on the December 17th post.

Happy New Year!

We did our math minute warm-up and started decimals with a review of place value. 

Math:   Repeat after me...

"tenths, hundredths, thousandths, ten-thousandths, hundred-thousandths, millionths!" 

Homework:   crazy "Doing Your Thing"  color sheet to help review place value.  Due Tuesday. 

Fun:  Miss Rianna came back today to help us celebrate the New Year with hot chocolate, marshmallows,  and grahm crackers.
