Thursday

Wow!  The last day of September was a great school day!  Most students got to play a math game with Mrs. Raleigh in flex.  In math we had excellent, complete, homework and took a quiz on simplifying fractions.  Look for scores soon on Snapgrades.  In science, we used the "Brainy Lightbulb" our brains and our buddies to start thinking about Atoms, Elements and the Periodic Table.

We met Miss Rianna who is a graduate intern from the University of Oregon beginning a career in teaching.  She also happens to be a star soccer player for the Ducks.  She will be working in our classroom 2-3 days a week.

Tomorrow, we will explore the website http://www.visualfractions.com/ .  < Click to see!

Monday

We  finished the EasyCBM  math test for fall today.  We had time to complete our "Math Minute" warm-up and prepare for tomorrow's Golf Ball science lab.  We worked on the meaning of data, hypothesis, controlled experiment, and variable.  Students were so on task and well behaved today that we flipped a coin for the math homework!  They won!  Not tomorrow, though.  Be ready for homework Tuesday!

Friday afternoon

Students showed outstanding patience and respect today in the computer lab.  It was our turn to take the pretest of the easyCBM test for sixth grade math.  They answered questions based on what they should know by the end of the year.  This test will enable us to measure progress by year's end.  We had lots of technical difficulties that caused students to have to wait quietly for help, and they showed great responsibility.

Every student who wrote a "Dear Mrs Stolp" letter got a postcard from me today.  I'm looking forward to getting to know each of your kids better through the year.  Thanks for all you do at home to support us at ASMS.  Happy Weekend!

Who Studies What?

Today we set up our gridbooks for math lesson notes.  We worked in partners to figure out lots of crazy scientist names:  what is an ornithologist?  a geologist?  a seismologist?.  One team got 22 out of 24 correct.
