Happy Halloween!

Math:  After correcting and collecting homework and warm-ups we practiced for the OAKS state test in the upstairs computer labs.  We will be taking the real OAKS test on Tuesday 11/2, -Monday 11/8.  We will take three days of class.  There will be no new math homework during that time.

Science:  We worked in partners on calculating neutrons, protons, and electrons of  certain elements.  Some students made it to level two and earned a piece of candy!  Anyone who finishes the green level 2 sheet can get extra science credit and a treat on Monday.

Poor Jimmy!

"Jimmy was a chemist's son, but Jimmy is no more :(  ,
What Jimmy thought was H2O,
Was H2SO4"

One of my favorite science riddles.  Who can come tell me what happened to Jimmy?

Homework:  Green and yellow math sheets due tomorrow.  Quiz on Lesson 9 tomorrow.  State Testing Round 1 next week starting Tuesday.

Last day to turn in late work is Friday 10/29

Math:  We learned how to add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators.  Homework; finish 9T, show work.  Pages 49-50 (2-24even) show work and be sure to simplify.

Science:
How many protons in an element?  It's equivalent to the atomic number!
How many electrons in an elements?  same amount as protons!
The hard one is neutrons:  atomic mass - atomic number = neutrons

Atom quiz tomorrow after we finish short video.

Monday

Math:  We turned in lesson 8T, took a lesson 8 quiz and started adding and subtracting fractions.  Homework Lesson 9T 1-6 only.  Save the back side for tomorrow.
Science:  We worked on the periodic table of elements some more.   Click here for the fun science video of the day >   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0zION8xjbM  .

Tuesday

We went to the computer lab and everyone worked at their own pace on "visual fractions" website.  See the link to the right.  Students can get extra credit by doing some of these lessons at home.  We took the Block 2 pretest to see where we need to go next in math and started homework:  Reduce 50 Fractions (white worksheet).

Tuesday

Today we took Lesson 5 Quiz in math.  See snapgrades for scores.

All students will get a midterm progress report tomorrow.

We reviewed "improper fractions" and watched Mr. Dewey's Fraction Rap >>>  Click here to see Mr. Dewey's Fraction Rap.   Homework is a small slip of fractions to simplify.

In science, we read about the discovery of electrons by JJ Thomsen.

Monday

Today we reviewed the definition of "atom", "law of conservation of matter", and "matter" in science.  In math, we kept working on comparing fractions and finding a fraction in between two fractions.  Students must use a common denominator for the fractions.

Great news!  Every single student showed improvement on their times tables tests!  On Sept 9th they were tested and scored.  On October 7th, we retested and the numbers were excellent!

Homework:  Blue math worksheet, show all work.  Quiz on Lesson 5 Tuesday.

Look for midterm grade reports coming home later this week.  Please sign and return to school.  You can always check "snapgrades" also.

Tuesday

Math Quiz today; Lesson 4 Least Common Multiple and Least Common Denominator.  See scores on snapgrades now.

Rachel's Challenge Assembly today.  The students described it as emotional, inspiring, and serious.  Come tonight to ASMS to see what Rachel's Challenge is all about!  See you at 7 pm.
  Click>  Rachel's Challenge

We watched a 10 minute movie packed with information about Atoms and Molecules.  There are 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 water molecules in a drop of water!

Homework:  Yellow times table worksheet.

Times Table Test on Thursday.  Have you improved since September?

Monday

Special Assembly tomorrow morning;  Rachel's Challenge.
Math Homework Lesson 4 white worksheet and selected problems from Lesson 4 in the math book.  Quiz on Lesson 4 tomorrow.
In Science we previewed Chapter 3;  we worked with a partner to see if we could  already answer any questions from the end of the Chapter.
