Today we reviewed the definition of "atom", "law of conservation of matter", and "matter" in science.  In math, we kept working on comparing fractions and finding a fraction in between two fractions.  Students must use a common denominator for the fractions.

Great news!  Every single student showed improvement on their times tables tests!  On Sept 9th they were tested and scored.  On October 7th, we retested and the numbers were excellent!

Homework:  Blue math worksheet, show all work.  Quiz on Lesson 5 Tuesday.

Look for midterm grade reports coming home later this week.  Please sign and return to school.  You can always check "snapgrades" also.

Monday

We  finished the EasyCBM  math test for fall today.  We had time to complete our "Math Minute" warm-up and prepare for tomorrow's Golf Ball science lab.  We worked on the meaning of data, hypothesis, controlled experiment, and variable.  Students were so on task and well behaved today that we flipped a coin for the math homework!  They won!  Not tomorrow, though.  Be ready for homework Tuesday!

Saturday, September 18, 2010

Friday afternoon

Students showed outstanding patience and respect today in the computer lab.  It was our turn to take the pretest of the easyCBM test for sixth grade math.  They answered questions based on what they should know by the end of the year.  This test will enable us to measure progress by year's end.  We had lots of technical difficulties that caused students to have to wait quietly for help, and they showed great responsibility.

Every student who wrote a "Dear Mrs Stolp" letter got a postcard from me today.  I'm looking forward to getting to know each of your kids better through the year.  Thanks for all you do at home to support us at ASMS.  Happy Weekend!
